Daniel Kayamba is a Chicago-based filmmaker and photographer from Portland, Maine. He was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His work emphasizes representation, inclusivity and youth culture. He works across many different genres and styles of filmmaking and photography. He experiments with compositions, colors and space. He aims to explore and document the lives of minorities through his work.
In 2018 he co-founded Rolling Tapes Film and Art Festival in Portland, Maine. The festival created a platform for young artist to share their work in a city that often does not provide these opportunities. He has worked on many films that have tackled the issues of race and class. For example, Mila: A self-portrait, a short documentary which highlighted the misrepresentation of black women voices in film. He is currently working on Flowers and Bikes, a feature film that address the issues of gun violence in the city of Chicago.
